Event description

The best and most accurate financial reports are of no use, if they don’t make sense to you. This workshop explains financial reports, and what to pay attention to.
Understanding financial information is crucial to being able to plan ahead. Your bank account balance alone is not a good enough indicator for whether you can afford something or are able to keep going as you are. Too often, employees of small community groups are left out of pocket, because committees did not read the signs well enough and let the group become insolvent. Other times, community groups accumulate more and more funds that they should actually be spending.
Not-for-profit accounts need to be read differently than those of a business. The workshop explains the components of financial reports, and what they tell you about where you stand, how you have been doing, and what your potential for the future is.

This workshop is presented by Harald Breiding-Buss of Community Capacity Accounting, a not-for-profit working with about 500 community organisations providing end-of-year financial reports, audits and reviews, training, and hands-on help in financial and governance matters. Their work is heavily subsidised for small groups, and often free.

Harald has worked in small not-for-profits for most of his working life, and understands governance and accounting not just from the perspective of how the ‘experts’ want it done, but also what is actually happening on the ground and is realistic. As part of CCA he has excellent networks with all major funders in the region and understands their perspective and requirements well.

This workshop is ideal for  Committee or Board members and managers of not for profit groups, trusts, organisations and clubs.
