One Day Choir - Episode 01
Event description
This summer join us for Ōtautahi's newest vocal event, One Day Choir.
One Day Choir is a fun, creative, no-strings way to get your choir fix... you'll get to immerse yourself in lush harmonies, feel-good rhythms, and craft a one-time-only piece of music that will never be sung in quite the same way again! One Day Choir is a unique opportunity to build community, make some new friends, and celebrate the joy of singing in harmony!
No auditions. No commitment. Just a bunch of eager humans making a whole lot of glorious noise together!
WHO IS IT FOR?
Whether you're a vocal ensemble veteran or have never sung in a group before, then you're our kind of singer! We provide sheet music as well as audio tracks for you to practice along with beforehand, so you can move at your own pace and contribute as much (or as little) as you're able to.
NB: One Day Choir is an adult choir, for singers aged 17 and over (no upper limit!!!).
WHAT WILL WE BE SINGING?
In Episode 1 of One Day Choir we'll be singing a Pop hit, remixed into a 4-5 part choir arrangement. 1-2 weeks before the event we'll announce the song, and we'll also email out a music pack to all ticket-holders (including audio learning tracks), so that you can have a bit of a 'note-bash' and get ahead on some of the basic note learning beforehand.
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?
In our time together we'll:
- Learn some fun vocal warm ups & exercises
- Spend some time getting vocally connected within our vocal parts
- Break down the harmonies and vocal parts
- Work through the piece section by section
- Split into smaller 'sectionals' (by vocal part)
- Shape and craft the music
- Take some casual rehearsal videos of the piece, and put together a wee highlights reel to share and spread the joy for those who aren't in the room
To finish the day, we'll deliver a 'Pop Up' performance of the song. This will happen 10mins prior to the end of the day.
GETTING PREPARED:
Sheet music and guide tracks of each part will be available as learning resources, to accommodate multiple ways of learning. These resources will be sent to the email you registered with when you book your ticket, and will land in your inbox at least a week before the event. We would encourage you to come having already familiarised yourselves with the parts, so that we can spend our time together really diving into the crafting and expression in the music.
While it's definitely not a requirement to be able to sight-read music, it would be beneficial for you to be able to follow along with the sheet music (we'll do a brief overview of the layout of the music at the beginning). That being said, the focus is on enjoyment rather than 'perfection' so please don't stress! Being a choir event, we would expect that many of those attending will feel more comfortable and confident with your parts once you're immersed amongst your other part-buddies, so don't get too hung up on getting the notes / rhythms perfect, just a general understanding of the form of the song and lyrics is a great start.
We'll pace the day according to the group, and will have opportunities to split off into 'sectionals' where each vocal section can spend a bit of time going revising their part together.
If you're concerned about whether or not you're at the right level to participate, don't hesitate to get in touch with our team and we can give a bit of guidance: hello@voicesco.nz
