'One Day' Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion
Event description
Join Plan International Australia for a compelling and free in-person screening of 'One Day', a powerful and award-winning documentary that follows the lives of 14-year-old girls from five different parts of the world. Narrated by the girls themselves, the film follows their activities on one quite ordinary, and extraordinary, Saturday in their life. These girls come from different contexts, yet there are universal experiences that translate across borders: their struggles, their strength and the potential of their futures.
Why This Matters Now
Despite significant strides in gender equality over the last 30 years, global conflicts, the accelerating climate crisis, and the recent global aid cuts have left girls increasingly marginalised. They face heightened barriers to education, healthcare and safety, raising urgent concerns about their future and the broader impact on global development. As funding for critical programs diminishes, the necessity to prioritise girls' rights and empowerment has never been clearer.
By empowering girls with access to education, protection, and opportunities, we can break cycles of poverty and enable lasting, transformative change for entire communities
After the documentary screening, we invite you to stay for an insightful and urgent panel discussion featuring leaders from Plan International Australia, ambassadors and partners. We’ll delve into the documentary’s broader themes—global gender inequality, education, and the critical efforts to support young girls in vulnerable communities.
