Event description

One Million Experiments from Naarm to Turtle Island

Join us for a screening of the documentary One Million Experiments followed by a facilitated conversation about Naarm-based experiments in creating safety in a world without police and prisons.

Date: 26 June 2025

Time: 7-9PM

Location: The Drill Hall @ Multicultural Hub. 51–57 Victoria Street, Melbourne (near Queen Vic Market)

One Million Experiments is a documentary film that explores the possibilities of creating and redefining safety in a world without police and prisons. The film showcases and celebrates a range of community-based safety projects across Turtle Island emerging from 2020's mass uprising in response to the police murder of George Floyd, asking: "What does safety in a world without police and prisons look like? What does it make more possible?" One Million Experiments is produced by Respair Production and Media, Interrupting Criminalization, and SoapBox Productions and Organizing.

To the questions put forward by the creators of One Million Experiments, we add: How do we learn with and from other experiments to work towards liberation for all on these stolen lands? We invite all those currently engaged in community-based experiments working to create a world without police and prisons, as well as folks interested in getting involved in this work, to join us for an evening of collective learning and conversation about how to build solutions that are grounded in transformation instead of punishment.
