Event description

Online Bookmaking Inquiry Group 2025

Year-long Collaborative Inquiry and Support for the teaching of Writing
facilitated by Katie Ashmead

Our popular Bookmaking Inquiry Group will continue online in 2025!

This is a Pedagogical Inquiry Group - not a workshop.

We created this Inquiry Group for all the educators who have participated in our Introductory Mini Courses and who are looking to extend and enrich their pedagogy of writing. Katie will follow the interests and questions from the group and facilitate dialogue where teachers troubleshoot, inspire and support each other.

We're particularly excited by the international interest in participating in this group! It will be the opportunity to connect with and learn from colleagues all over the world.

It is important to understand that these are NOT facilitated like a workshop
where everything is pre-prepared.

Hope you can join us!

Join a small group of like-minded educators from preschool and primary school settings to deepen your understandings about the pedagogical approach of Bookmaking.

It is a pre-requisite to have previously participated in our Introduction to Bookmaking mini-course (or have worked with Lisa Burman, Katie Ashmead or Amanda Bartram in your site) as the Inquiry Group will assume prior knowledge and experience. If you have participated in professional learning about Writing Workshops with other international consultants, that should be fine for your prerequisite work. There may be some slight differences in our approaches, but the core values and pedagogical principles will be the same.

The Bookmaking Inquiry Group provides an opportunity to share ideas and practice with each other so a willingness to participate and share is essential.

What other participants are saying about their Writing Inquiry Group experience:

"It was a fantastic forum of like-minded educators who were all so passionate about Bookmaking! I highly recommend this Study Group to anone who has entered the wonderful world of Bookmaking!"

Lara, Reception Teacher

"Not only did we have the opportunity to learn new skills and have guest speakers share their writing experiences, but the networking with other educators was exciting."

Angela, Early Years Educator

The Study Group will comprise 2 modes for learning (online via Zoom & a private FaceBook group).

1. Inquiry Sessions (1 hour) twice per term - in terms 1,2 and 3.

Time is ACST (South Australia) 7:00pm - 8:00pm,

Term 1:  Monday 17th February and Monday 17 March

Term 2: Monday 19 May and Monday 16th June

Term 3: Monday 11 August and Monday 8 September

Term 4: We don't plan for a zoom session because of the busyness of term 4, but the FB group continues.

(dates are subject to change)

2.  Private FaceBook page where you will be invited to share ideas, successes and ask questions of each other. Moderated by the team at Lisa Burman Consultants, who share articles, blog posts and other resources to support your bookmaking with children. You get life-long membership in this Group.

This year-long project will provide at least 15 hours of professional learning time if you access the FB page just once a week/fortnight. A Certificate of Participation, that is aligned to the Australian Teaching Standards, is provided at the final Inquiry Session.

Please note: payment is strictly by credit card via Humanitix only.

Tax invoices are provided immediately should you require reimbursement from your site.

Manual invoicing is not available.
