Event description

This workshop is designed to support artists in building the skills necessary to create strong, funding applications. Participants will explore the essentials of proposal writing, including how to clearly communicate project goals, set achievable objectives, and develop a compelling narrative to attract support. The session will also cover practical elements like budget planning, demonstrating impact, and aligning proposals with the priorities of funding bodies. With an emphasis on simplifying the application process, the workshop aims to provide artists with the confidence and know-how to pursue funding successfully and bring their creative ideas to life.

Through practical exercises and helpful feedback, participants will gain clarity, confidence, and the essential tools to approach funding applications with a competitive edge.


Who is this for?

This session is open to local artists, musicians and creatives who want to develop their skills in project funding and proposal writing. Particularly those who are ready to submit an application for a project in the next six months.


What to expect:

This is a small, interactive session with a maximum of 20 participants.

  • 5:30 PM – Arrive, settle in, get your audio and video working

  • 5.45 PM – Overview of the Grant Process, Essential Materials Needed for Your Application

  • 7:00 PM – Guided workshop activity to support your individual project

  • 7:30 PM – Close

Following the workshop, you’ll have access to one-on-one mentoring to help develop your project plans and turn them into a strong grant application.



Your facilitator:

Melania Jack is the RASN officer for Cairns, Yarrabah, Tablelands, Cassowary Coast, Etheridge and Croydon. Jack brings over 15 years of experience as an artist, project manager and workshop facilitator. Their multidisciplinary practice spans video, sound, performance, installation, and projection. Melania has exhibited work locally, nationally and internationally and is one half of the award-winning duo The Ironing Maidens. With a Master’s degree in Creative Industries, Jack is deeply committed to fostering opportunities for regional artists.
