Who? Kids aged 7 to 12

What? FIVE fun Chemistry Lessons with Jacob Strickling - Science Teacher.

When? Thursdays 1:00pm to 2:00pm (AEDT) from 12th October to 9th November 2023

Keen? Follow these four simple steps:

1. Purchase this Humanitix ticket

2. If you don’t already have one, then purchase a Junior Chemistry Set One for $50 from Tiny Science Lab

3. Print out the worksheets which will be emailed to you a few days before the course starts

4. Have the following extras on hand for each lesson (note - you probably will have most of these in the kitchen cupboard already)

Lesson	Extra’s required
1. Introductions, Equipment and Temperature Fun	i) Premade tiny Ice-cubes using the tiny ice-cube tray, ii) Table salt (tablespoon full)
2. Amazing Water and Surface Tension	i) Food colouring ii) Full cream Milk (one cup) iii) QT Tip (cotton ear cleaner bud) iv) Washing up detergent (small amount) v) Sugar (a tablespoon) vi) Salt (a tablespoon)
3. Orbeez and Volume	i) 20 Orbeez which have soaked in water overnight (these come with the Set) ii) Food colouring iii) Salt (a tablespoon) iv) Sugar (a tablespoon)
4. Fake Snow and Magic Mud	i) Food colouring ii) Salt (Tablespoon) iii) Citric Acid iv) Cornstarch
5. Chemical Reactions	i) Vinegar ii) Bicarb Soda iii) Detergent iv) Food colour v) Citric Acid (Cooking aisle of supermarket) vi) Sugar

Only one ticket required per zoom login.

This means if siblings share a computer only one ticket is required.

In fact, a whole class or homeschool hub only requires one ticket!- as long as only a single device is used to access the event.

However it is HIGHLY recommended that each participant has their own Junior Chemistry Set One for the course.

Location? Your home, your school, your homeschool hub, your caravan or even McDonald’s (A prize may be awarded for the most unusual location!)

Anticipated Questions (AQ’s)

What does a lesson normally look like? This is a live lesson with Jacob as the Teacher, explaining and demonstrating what students are to do, asking and answering questions, teaching, demonstrations etc.

What is the maximum class size? 23 logins.

Will we need the camera on? Preferably yes. Jacob can only engage with student’s who have video on. At the beginning of the course Jacob must also see that it is a legitimate child participating in the class.

Is the zoom class recorded? Yes it is. If your child misses a lesson or wants to repeat it at their own pace then they can watch the lesson later.

Is the class safe? Children need to be supervised by a responsible adult. The Science activities chosen are all considered low risk.

What are Jacob’s credentials? Jacob is a Science Teacher with 25 years experience. He has a current Working With Children Check and clean police record. Jacob has 4 children of his own and with his wife Rachel currently home educate their youngest.

Can I invite others to buy tickets to the Course? Absolutely! The kids will love doing the class with their friends or cousins.

I have a few children, do I need to buy multiple tickets? No! It’s one ticket per Zoom login. Generally 1 to 4 can gather around a single device.

Jacob recommends that each child uses their own Junior Chemistry Set One

My child is dyslexic can they still do the workshop? Absolutely! They can read through the worksheet a number of times prior to the lesson. They won’t be put on the spot to read and Jacob won’t ask for a close look of their completed worksheet.
