Presencing My Body in Diverse Social Fields: An Online Social Presencing Theater Social Justice Hub
Event description
"Social Field awareness is the only paddle or rudder available to the small boat of our current situation as it moves out into the unknown." — Arawana Hayashi
“I believe that all organizing is science fiction – that we are shaping the future we long for and have not yet experienced.” — adrienne maree brown
As we work for positive social change we are not only dealing with the future we have not yet experienced, but also coming into contact and learning how to be in community with people we have not yet experienced. Whole groups of them will cross our paths, each with their own cultural norms and values that we must seek to understand. But before this, we have to have noticed these norms and values - and that is where social field awareness comes in.
In this monthly group, we will hone our perceptive skills of watching, listening, and sensing as a means of advancing racial equity and social justice. We’ll explore simple movement practices that get us out of our heads and allow us more awareness of our own presence and of the collective energy of the assembled group, or “Social Field.” To get there we use the simple movement methods of Arawana Hayashi's Social Presencing Theater (SPT), further informed by a range of trauma-sensitive somatic practices.
