WHAT THE COURSE COVERS
Empowering communities with early intervention mental health training helps foster a culture of care, enabling individuals to thrive and communities to flourish.
Mental Health First Aid is a practical skills-based education program that equips people with the skills and confidence needed to recognise and respond to someone they know who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.
Topics covered include:
- depression and anxiety
- psychosis
- substance use problems
Mental health crisis covered include:
- suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- panic attacks
- traumatic events
- severe psychotic states
- severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
- aggressive behaviours
COURSE COMPONENTS
Component 1:
3-4hrs self-paced eLearning component
Component 2:
1 x 4hr zoom sessions led by an accredited and experienced Standard MHFA for Community Settings Instructor.

ABOUT THE TRAINER
Sonja Bottern has considerable experience in leading and managing large teams, as well as volunteering on many community/grassroots organizations. Her qualifications include both Social Work and teaching and she has worked in the mental health sector for 25yrs.
Sonja also runs a variety of other training like ASIST (suicide prevention), safeTALK (Suicide Awareness) and all the other MHFA trainings.
