    Event description

Standing Strong: Being an effective advocate for your child's inclusive education

    Online: Wednesday 22nd May 2024

Having to speak up for someone you care about can be daunting.  Few are prepared to be thrust into this advocacy role when they become a parent or guardian of a child with disability.

Join our free online workshop to gain the skills and confidence to be an effective advocate for your child’s inclusion at the local school. Learn how to not only stand strong, but how to bring the school and others along with your vision for your child’s inclusion.

    This workshop will cover:

    • The importance of family advocacy
    • Setting a vision for inclusion success
    • “Facing the crowd” when experiencing obstacles to inclusion from unsupportive educators, other families or our own networks
    • The pervasive myths and objections to inclusion and how to combat them
    • Practical advocacy tips, strategies, and skills
    • Coping with fears and anxieties

    Who should attend:

Parents and carers of school-aged children (Prep to Year 12) with disability. Parents and carers of younger children who are starting to think about/ prepare for the school years are also most welcome to attend.
