Open Architecture Talk | Peter Droege | Beyond Paris: the race to stabilise the climate by design
Event description
The School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle is delighted to be hosting Honorary Professor Peter Droege through our Open Architecture Talk series. These talks are free and open for students, practitioners, and the broader community to come together and ‘open up’ our shared places, practices and projects. This public programming is part of our Visiting Architects and Experts project, that draws in a diversity of voices and perspectives to discuss, workshop and critique the built environment.
Title | Beyond Paris: the race to stabilise the climate by design
Beyond Paris describes a local and global action agenda that is effective enough to stabilize the global climate. The presentation covers needed changes in global practice and public perception, and covers the trajectory of local and regional climate mitigation measures through urban and regional design. The final part of the presentation covers the evolution of Peter Droege's work with GIS-based climate mitigation efforts, from local and regional renewable energy autonomy and climate-positive scenario modeling to the Global Climate Geodesign Challenge with the International Geodesign Collaboration of universities around the world. The Context of Peter's presentation is also provided by his current open access paper Beyond Paris - emergency imperatives for global policies and local action - see earthdecade.org
