Open Christchurch 2022: MegaTower
Event description
OPEN CHRISTCHURCH 2022: MegaTower
Architect: Thom Craig Architects, 2016
Built on the site of a former public toilet, this residence is a look at the future of urban living. The innovative structure, a tapering tower, uses the maximum space allowed on the 5 x 5m plot. The living spaces are stacked - starting with the garage, moving up to the fourth-floor mezzanine library/reading room (accessible by retractable ladder) before culminating in a rooftop terrace. Three sides of the building are on the boundary; the third’s facade louvres create a light-filled atrium that runs the height of the building and joins the spaces.
