Open Christchurch 2022: Rout House
Event description
OPEN CHRISTCHURCH 2022: Rout House
Architect: Jonty Rout, 1979
Designed as a retreat from city life by the architect for his family to live in, Rout House exudes ease and quietude. Tucked in amongst the trees, the simple kahikatea board-and-batten clad refuge is made rich with harbour views. Living spaces are carefully connected and arranged over multiple levels around an open central staircase, so the rhythms of daily life are front and centre. Drawing on traditional materials and conditions unique to NZ, this is an effortless expression of place and how good architecture improves everyday living.
