Open Christchurch 2023: Christchurch has Style: the legacy of Sir Miles Warren & Maurice Mahoney
Event description
OPEN CHRISTCHURCH 2023: Christchurch has style: the legacy of Sir Miles Warren & Maurice Mahoney
Join us for a lively evening celebrating the internationally significant partnership of Sir Miles Warren and Maurice Mahoney, two architectural giants who brought about the rise of the Christchurch Style.
An architectural legacy begins with the designers. View never-before-seen footage from ‘Maurice and I’, a documentary-in-process by Jane Mahoney and Rick Harvie. Because of the film-makers’ craft and care, our evening of storytelling will begin with words from Sir Miles Warren and Maurice Mahoney themselves.
For a legacy to endure it needs the commitment of passionate people. Our evening continues with quick fire talks from owners and architects who have restored, strengthened and cared for the works of architecture that are part of this legacy. Speakers include Dorenda Britten (Schneideman House), Greg Young (Dorset Street Flats), Alec Bruce (College House), Matt & Kate Arnold (Munro House), Andrew Just (Taylor’s Building) and Barry Dacombe (65 Cambridge Tce). Bring your questions for a brief Q & A with the speakers and your answers for the quiz questions (there are prizes!), which will be peppered throughout the evening.
We wish to thank Venues Ōtautahi for their support of a venue for this event.
