Open Christchurch 2023: St Mary’s Apartments
Event description
OPEN CHRISTCHURCH 2023: St Mary’s Apartments
Architects: Peter Beaven, 1999
Renowned architect Peter Beaven’s masterful design for medium density urban living is a display of skilful planning and encompasses subtle nods to Christchurch’s architectural heritage. Named for the convent that formerly occupied part of the site, the complex comprises 70 apartments that are spread across four levels and arranged around two quadrangles inspired by those of the former Canterbury College. Concrete block is celebrated as the construction material, the logic of which is seen in the assembly of a simple, bold geometry.
