Visit three miners cottages each representing its own view of living today in a miners cottage. Includes two talks on heritage by noted historians. Miners cottages are at 57 Green St California Gully, 9 Black Street Long Gully and 34 Valentine Street Ironbark, within a short drive of each other.

57 Green St California Gully: Experience 150 years of families living in a mudbrick home. Built by Thomas and Sarah Evans in 1874 it grew to a farm of about 120 acres and today sits on an acre of gardens with 7 out buildings. At 11am Elaine Doling will give a short talk on the History of Miners Cottages.

9 Black Street Long Gully: Built in 1876 this weatherboard miners cottage is nestled in a lovely garden setting in the Ironbark Heritage Precinct and is a great example of a home comfortably renovated without compromising heritage integrity. At 2pm Dr Charles Fahey will speak on the History of Mining Cottages

34 Valentine Street, IronBark: The current owners were attracted to the welcoming look of the cottage and undaunted by its dilapidated state, determined to restore the cottage and hut, and build an addition at the rear of the property. The restoration work included the reuse of as many materials as possible. The house is now very liveable, the restored old, blending with the new.

Where to meet for tour

Arrive at any of the three miners cottages anytime within the tour open times, look out for the National Trust Heritage Festival sign. You may need to plan your visits to ensure you can attend the talks, 11am at Green St. and 2pm at Black St.
