Who is Open Haven? 

Open Haven started in 2013, when founder & CEO Sabeel Burgess felt there was a gap missing for women on their journey to find empowerment and independence in an effort to start their new lives after leaving a Domestic Violence relationship.

Open Haven operates using place-based hubs for female survivors of domestic violence to come together on a weekly basis in their local area. We support survivors who have received crisis intervention, left the unsafe situation, and are looking to rebuild their lives. The hubs utilise a person-centred approach in providing practical, social and wellbeing initiatives, referrals, and activities. Our programs are tailored to meet the individual needs of participants through a range of activities that help participants with employability, literacy, driving lessons and training. The activities assist to reduce isolation and loneliness, create community, and increase wellbeing.
