What is Open Mess?

Open Mess is about celebrating the magic of food and its ability to bring people together, for a good cause. It's inspired by my brother Alex. Good food and coffee always seemed to add technicolour to his world, especially after a cancer diagnosis. "With cancer, food plays such a huge part in my life" were the words I'd often receive after a Peter Mac sandwich delivery from Neighbourhood Pizza and Doc Deli, or a cake from Beatrix Bakes or Julia's Ostro. The exquisite generosity of Melbourne's most vibrant artists and bakers is our vehicle to progressing the med-tech field he was so passionate about and would have worked in, had he made it out the other end.

The cause

All funds raised will go to The University of Sydney Nano Institute team, who are researching the application of nanobots in cancer and heart disease. They’re working to replace operations and better target chemotherapy treatment. The science is incredibly exciting and game-changing for the medical profession.
