Open Music Academy presents: Classical Vocal Masterclass
With guest tutor, Cath Carby

Date: Saturday 22 August 2026
Time: 4:00pm–6:00pm
Venue: Hartley 106, Hartley Building
Registration: Free, but registration is essential.

This will be an open masterclass for all public to attend. Vocal students of the Open Music Academy will prepare classical pieces to present, and will have the opportunity to work with Cath on interpretation, musicality, vocal technique, and stagecraft.

Catherine Carby is one of Australia's leading mezzo-sopranos, now based in the UK, with a career spanning major opera houses and orchestras around the world. She has performed with the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, and Opera Australia, among many others, in roles ranging from Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier to the title role in Bizet's Carmen. 

Trained at the Canberra School of Music and the Royal College of Music in London, Catherine brings decades of international stage experience to her teaching. She is visiting Adelaide to perform with State Opera in their season of Hansel and Gretel, and we're thrilled she'll be taking time to work with our voice students on classical repertoire during her visit.
