Join the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare for our inaugural education forum!


Explore the positive impact education can have in the lives of children and young people with an out-of-home care experience from the early years right through to university and TAFE. Join us to hear from a range of dynamic speakers with professional and lived experience expertise, highlighting the amazing work being done in Victoria and abroad to support care-experienced young people to thrive in their education. 


Our forum will include: 

  • Inspiring keynote presentations from international and Australian lived experience experts and academics 

  • Workshops on a range of topics exploring good practice in supporting education for care-experienced children and young people  

  • A unique opportunity to network with other professionals across both the education and out-of-home care sectors 

  • Exciting awards recognising tenacious care-experienced young people and outstanding professionals working in the education and out-of-home care sectors

  • Brooke Blurton: Proud Noongar-Yamatji woman, author, media personality, care-experienced youth worker, and advocate.

  • Lemn Sissay OBE: Care-experienced poet, playwright, speaker and advocate from the United Kingdom.

  • Jacinta Parsons: Radio broadcaster and writer from Melbourne, Australia.

  • Kitty te Riele: Professor of Education at University of Tasmania’s Peter Underwood Centre, with a research focus on improving educational experiences and outcomes for marginalised young people.

  • Dr Ana Garcia-Melgar: A leading voice in inclusive neuro-affirming education, with a focus on responsive learning environments for students.

  • Luke Rodgers: Lived experience leader, award-winning social entrepreneur and CEO of The Care Leaders.
