OPENING EVENT: برزخ LIMINAL, ABSENCE AND SNARM
Description
Join us to celebrate the opening of The Condensery’s latest exhibitions: برزخ Liminal, Absence and Snarm
برزخ Liminal by Sha Sarwari weaves the refugee experience through linguistic pairings and allegorical layers, holding space for overlapping pasts and imagined futures. In this in-between terrain, displacement’s uncertainty is acknowledged while also becoming a site of possibility – a space where hope can take root.
Absence builds on Darren Blackman’s recent exhibition – Post truth and features a series of new neon, print, neon and digital works exploring systemic inequality and the lived experiences of Aboriginal people. New works center on the artist’s deeply personal connection to the Somerset region. Blackman’s Great, Great Grandmother is buried somewhere in a paddock on Blackflat Station, formerly Durundur Aboriginal Mission. Her resting place, unmarked and obscured, stands as a potent symbol of how First Nations presence and memory are silenced, displaced, and overwritten.
Presented in The Condensery’s Bomb Shelter, Snarm by Nataly Lee brings together photography and installation to examine forms of temporary domesticity. While rooted in longer histories of conflict and movement, the work is shaped by contemporary realities, where displacement continues to structure everyday life in the present.
Hear from the exhibiting artists as they explore the interconnected themes within their work through a series of artist talks presented during the opening event.
This is a free event with light catering provided.
