Opening of Illustrators Exhibition
Event description
An exhibition that will include varied and delightful artworks by Illustrators of many genres for all ages. Guest illustrators will join winners of the Illustrators Expression of Interest process to bring the CWA Hall alive with stories and characters. The illustrators will be available to talk about their work, their techniques and their inspirations. The exhibition will also be in CWA Hall on Saturday 23/8/25 with Illustrators in attendance 8am-9.45am.

Sandra Severgnini is an author and illustrator of numerous award-winning books. Her fascination for the amazing world around her inspires her words and brings sensitivity and humour to her illustrations. She has published:

Alison D Stegert is an award-winning Sunshine Coast-based children's author. She specialises in whimsical picture books and action-packed novels for children aged 9 - 14 years. Ali enjoys working with aspiring writers as a book coach, a writing mentor of young people and adults, and workshop facilitator. Her Majesty's League of Remarkable Young Ladies, a historical fiction with gadgets galore, is her most recent work.
Natasha Carty is a Brisbane-based children’s book illustrator with a love of harmonious colour palettes, scratchy textures, and quirky characters. Her path to illustration winds through a childhood spent dodging goannas on the family sheep farm, hiding in university lecture halls while her dad taught animation, to later dabbling in fine art, photography, and then graphic design. With four picture books to her name and more on the way, Natasha now divides her time between working on her next picture book from her home studio and creating lettering and illustrations for film and television productions at the Gold Coast Studios.
Brent Wilson is a Brisbane-based author, illustrator and designer who grew up on a healthy diet of cartoons, comics and corner-store lolly bags. His quirky illustrations regularly pop up here, there and — most importantly — in fun and funny books for kids! His most recent work includes the fast-paced and hilarious graphic novel series Frog, Log and Dave which he co-wrote with Trent Jamieson and illustrated, out through Penguin Random House.
Dr Hope O’Chin, originally from Cherbourg is a Kabi-Kabi, Wakka-Wakka, Koa, Kuku-Yalanji First Nation Elder who is also known as Aunty Hope in her Community, of the Sunshine Coast. From the 1980s, Dr O’Chin earned a Doctorate of Philosophy 2021, after awarded an honorary Education doctorate two years earlier. Educator and artist, Hope believesart and education can provide a bridge for a united Australian nation. Dr O’Chin’s book, “An Epistemology Of Belongingness”, was launched across the Sunshine Coast and Cherbourg2023/24, and traces the history of the Barambah Aboriginal Settlement, now (Cherbourg1932) has been reflected in broader Australian society.
Kerry Neill is a proud Kabi Kabi Traditional Owner and the Director of Triballink, a First Nations organisation committed to cultural education, storytelling, and community engagement. Kerry has written childrens books and worked with his multitalented team to recently create Djaa, an online children’s game set in the Kabi Kabi traditional lands in the south east of Queensland. Using traditional and contemporary knowledge passed down for generations Djaa provides a world where the player can run, play, hunt, have fun and learn at the same time.
Hongning (Hans) Lian is a visual artist based in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, best known for turning naturally shaped stones into lifelike animal portraits. Inspired by each rock’s form and texture, he paints pets, wildlife, and mythical creatures. A former graphic designer, he returned to traditional art in 2010, drawn by its calming joy. Beyond stone painting, Hongning also works in pastel, photography, and illustration. His creations often serve as meaningful gifts and pet memorials—each telling a personal story. He hopes to one day publish a collection celebrating love, memory, and creativity.
Katrin Dreiling creates quirky illustrations that feature different media. Her first picture book The World’s Worst Pirateby Michelle Worthington has been awarded Notable Book 2018 by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. In 2021 her first authored and illustrated picture book A Perfect Pig published by Scholastic Australia. Katrin also loves to illustrate for other authors than herself and has worked with Walker Books, Page Street Kids and is currently in the middle of two projects with Larrikin House.
