Opening Reception - Gee Horton: Chapter 2, A Subtle Farewell to the Inner Child
Event description
You’re invited to the opening reception of Gee Horton’s highly anticipated second solo exhibition, Chapter 2: A Subtle Farewell to the Inner Child, on Saturday, September 7th, from 6-9 pm at Kennedy Heights Art Center. As a highlight of the 2024 FOTOFOCUS Biennial, this evocative exhibition explores Horton’s journey of self-discovery and healing, inspired by his recent pilgrimage to Senegal, West Africa.
Horton’s work, featuring photography, drawings, cyanotypes, collage, and video, delves into themes of identity, memory, and belonging. Combining personal narratives with the experiences of six middle-aged African American men, the exhibition focuses on how the subtle shift from youth to adulthood shapes our lives.
The exhibition is divided into four sections: “The Little Boy Inside,” “Ova Granny’s House,” “The Rupture,” and “Family Business,” each reflecting on change, loss, and healing. It concludes with a short film created in collaboration with filmmaker Shay Nartker.
Enhance your visit with an audio tour led by DiasporicSoul’s Phyllis Jeffers-Coly, offering deeper insights into the exhibition’s themes.
