Opera In The Antique Shop
Event description
What makes something timeless? Why are old things, from a bygone era, still beautiful? Come and experience why - with an evening of opera performed amongst relics from the past.
Opera in the Antique Shop is a rare and exciting concert that combines the elements of timeless beauty with new and modern stories. Hear opera in a unique atmosphere surrounded by vintage cars and antiques. First, hear an act filled with timeless operatic classics, and then travel through time to a second act presenting new works of opera; performed by the new voices of opera, exploring their own present stories. With three emerging opera singers, as well as the brilliant Sydney based pianist Ronan Apcar, Opera in the Antique shop is a concert created by Opera in the Country, a project dedicated to performing opera in country areas and platforming emerging opera singers.
This program will feature beloved classics such as ‘Duo des fleurs’ (Flower Duet) from Lakmé as well as ‘Votre Toast’ from Carmen, and modern operatic pieces from composers such as Kurt Weill and Leonard Bernstein, all the way to new original Australian work by composer and pianist Ronan Apcar.
