Opportunities in the Francosphere is a collaboration between FrenchSoc, the French Embassy, UC French Department, UC Business School, FAST!, CNRS, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Law showcasing different opportunities available to work and study in France or in collaboration with France.

The event will involve different presenters from UC faculty and external organisations giving small seminars about their experience or the opportunities (internships/scholarships/collaborations etc.) that they know are available for students in relation to France. The day will be structured into three different sessions: Arts-focused, Business-focused and Science-focused. There will be a break for (free!) food around the middle of the day and there will be time for networking/panel questions at the end of each session.

Arts-focused session (9am-11am Rehua 003)

Presenters include:

Alizée Armet – Artist-researcher, Artist in Residence at Villa Antipode, creates hybrid installations at the intersection of plastic, technology and biology. Her art integrates computation, 3D objects and organic materials.

Antonio Viselli – Senior Lecturer Above Bar in Global, Cultural and Language Studies at UC speaking about French exchange opportunities in France and the Pacific and PACE opportunities.

Annick Masselot – Professor in the Faculty of Law at UC who will be speaking about the importance of exchanges, her experience on an ERASMUS exchange, work with the European Commission, and opportunities for French-speaking students at UC within Law.

Anne Rouault – Science and Higher Education Attaché at the French Embassy in New Zealand speaking about France-NZ cooperation and opportunities for university students.

Business-focused session (12pm-1pm Rehua 102)

Presenters include:

UC Business School International Office speaking about the opportunities available for UC Business students to study in France

Natalia Chaban – Professor in Media and Communication at UC. Speaking about Student Research Groups within the Public Diplomacy and Political Communication Forum, and how students can get involved.

Anne Rouault – Science and Higher Education Attaché at the French Embassy in New Zealand speaking about France-NZ cooperation and opportunities for university students.

Science-focused session (1:30pm-3pm Rehua 003)

Presenters include:

Laura Cobus – Senior Lecturer in Physics at UC speaking about her experience on a Marie Sklodowska-Curie post-doctorate fellowship in France and her work in French laboratories.

Hervé Quenol – Senior researcher at the CNRS (National Scientific Research Centre), an international cooperative science organisation, speaking about the CNRS, his work in Climate Modelling and Environmental Sciences, and opportunities for students to study in France or in collaboration with the CNRS.

Liam Bately – student at UC in Mechanical/biomedical Engineering speaking about his experience doing a bio-engineering internship in France and how he got this opportunity.

Anne Rouault – Science and Higher Education Attaché at the French Embassy in New Zealand speaking about France-NZ cooperation and opportunities for university students.

Note: This event is open to anyone and everyone; you do not need to be a FrenchSoc member, studying French or speak French to attend. If you want to attend multiple sessions, please get multiple tickets.
