Orfeo ed Euridice
Event description
"What will I do? Where will I go? ...
There is no more hope, on earth or in heaven."
Since time began, we have tried to make sense of life, of death, of how we experience grief and loss. It is an eternal question; something we are desperate to understand, yet ironically can never really answer.
Unfolding as a fantasy on grief, Gluck and Calzabigi's 1762 opera Orfeo ed Euridice draws upon a "myth" which finds an equivalent in every place and time. In 2021, its voice is as pertinent as ever.
