    🍋🥒🥕Use Your Backyard to Grow Food. It takes better - it is more fun - and it isn't as hard as people make it out to be. 


    Join our very own Green Thumb Farm founder Susanne Engelhard for this Growing Food at Home: Introductory Course.  Full of practical demonstrations combined with straightforward local knowledge - you will get all the answers you need to be successfully growing food at home in no time without complication and overwhelm!

    The course is held over Saturday & Sunday from 9am - 3.30pm

    What you will learn:

     

      🌼 Getting the Foundations Right

      • Sun, Water, Soil (learn how much water and sun is enough, what time is best to water, how to prepare your soil for planting)
      • Essential Equipment & Tools (don't waste your money buying things you don't need, but do get the things you do need)
      • Direct & Container Gardening (absolutely everything you need to know about raised beds, wicking beds, grow bags, pots, and unground planting - including how to fill them easily, what plants suit which, and even where to buy what. 

      🌼 Garden Love 

        This is where you get to get your hands dirty with some practical, hands on demonstrations. 

        • Compost & Worm Farms - your secret sauce
        • Weed teas & natural brews to enhance your patch
        • Mulch - what to use, what to avoid, when to do it
        • Seeds, Seedlings, Cuttings - when, why, what
        • Managing weeds in less time

        🌼 Pests be gone!

        Get the low down on managing pests naturally. From possums to brush turkeys, from caterpillars to grasshoppers learn what works and what doesn't. 

          What to bring: 
          • Please wear closed shoes
          • A hat, water bottle & sunscreen
          • Your favourite notebook & pen

          Experience level: 

          Suitable for beginners - no green thumbs necessary.


          Parking:

          Free onsite parking (Take the turn off from Mt Samson Rd, into Green Thumb Farm. Take the first turn to the left which leads you past a little red building (this is where you will meet Susanne for the workshop).


          About Susanne Engelhard: 

          Susanne is actively involved in the locally grown food movement. She co-founded the Samford Edible Garden Trail, is Head of Operations of Green Thumb Farm, and recently launched the inaugural Moreton Bay Farm Trail in 2024.
