Canberra City Farm uses organic gardening principles, and this is particularly important when it comes to managing pests and diseases. As you watch your garden grow and change, you will notice that pests and diseases often strike, when a plant is not thriving or coming to the end of its reproductive life. So how do we manage these without using toxic chemicals? Managing pests and diseases organically includes:

• Identifying pests and diseases

• Creating a thriving population of pest predators

• Judicious use of organic sprays

• Manual removal and pest traps

• Netting and other barriers

At the end of this session, you will understand the role and place of pests and diseases in the environment, how to minimise their occurrence through a healthy and balanced garden environment, how to discourage them in your garden and manage them when they appear. through integrated pest management.
