Description

From sharing zucchini seeds over the fence with a neighbour to taking a cutting from a friend's thriving rosemary bush, propagating your own herbs and vegetables is easy, inexpensive and so very satisfying. Learn the basics of how to produce new plants from seed, cuttings and division in organic growing conditions in this hands-on workshop. Horticulturalist Olivia Caputo will take the class through seasonal timing for growth, heirloom and hybrid seeds, and propagation media using practical examples inside the CERES hothouses. Participants can take home any plants they have propagated on the day.

Trainer Bio:

Olivia Caputo is an experienced horticulturalist working in plant biosecurity. She has worked at CERES Nursery and CERES Propagation enterprise. A keen gardener from a young age, Olivia grew up surrounded by tropical plants at
her parents' palm nursery in QLD. She has worked on organic farms and
market gardens in Australia, Italy and the UK, and at Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm in New York.

With a Diploma of Horticulture and a Permaculture Design Certificate,
her special interests include community-based agriculture, plant breeding, conservation and indigenous plants, and propagation of edible species. She currently manages a team of horticulturists working in plant quarantine to propagate and test new varieties of fruit trees, berries and other high-risk plants imported into Australia.
