Event description

📣 Calling all University of Melbourne students! 📣

Are you a first-year taking a computing subject? Are you looking to make your newest lifelong friends (or meet that new romantic interest)? What about doing all this before even stepping foot into the classroom?

Waddle on to the chillest (and most fun) orientation camp at Uni as we do what all CS students secretly long for, staying as far away from screens as possible. Involving crazy challenges, fun games, banging music and exquisite vibes - there’s no better way to kick off your university experience! 👯

Tickets include accommodation, transport, food, drinks (including alcohol) and a super cool limited-edition camp t-shirt. The best part, your fellow campers will be doing the same subjects as you so you can walk into your first tutorial already with familiar faces. 😍😍

⁉️ FAQ ⁉️

What is CISSA Camp?
CISSA camp is the best way to meet your fellow computing cohort right from week 1. As a smaller orientation camp, we want to provide a chilled alternative to some of the full-on camps that have been hosted in the past. Expect to play fun games, enjoy some good food and drinks, compete in various challenges, and make lifelong friends. The best part is, since everyone’s a computing student, you'll be bumping into everyone you’ve met in your classes the following week.

Are we camping?
During CISSA Camp, campers will reside in cabins for the entire duration of the camp. They will receive three catered meals each day, catering to various dietary needs as required.Whilst reception is available, campers will be spending the next 3+ years working with screens. We encourage the social connection with fellow campers through non-digital means.

Alcohol and Drugs
Strictly NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS are to be brought onto CISSA Camp. There will be alcohol provided at the evening activities. Alcohol will be served only by leaders who have completed their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training. We want to stress that drinking alcohol is completely optional, with many non-alcoholic beverages available. Campers will NOT be forced to drink anything, and none of our activities have been designed around drinking. We anticipate many campers will not drink any alcohol at all.

Who is eligible?
Age Restrictions: CISSA Camp is STRICTLY an 18+ event (must be 18 by 01/03/24). ID’s will be checked and approved before the event. Anyone who is not 18 or over will be denied from attending CISSA Camp.

Course Restrictions: ONLY incoming first year computing students at the University of Melbourne are invited to CISSA Camp. We define a computing student to be any student enrolled into a computing subject in Semester 1 or Semester 2 of 2024 as part of their Bachelor degree or a concurrent diploma of Computing. Campers do not need to have selected a computing related major (for example Computing and Software Systems or Data Science), or even have decided on their major. For someone taking a computing subject (even as a breadth), this could be trying out computing for the first time, CISSA camp is a great way to meet some like-minded people!
Approved computing subjects include:
- Foundations of Computing (COMP10001)
- Foundations of Algorithms (COMP10002)
- Media Computation (COMP10003)

If you feel like you qualify as a ‘computing student’ but are excluded as per the criteria, please don’t hesitate to contact us at camp@cissa.org.au.

Safety
As a University of Melbourne Student Union affiliated society, CISSA camp follows all procedures and guidelines required by the student union. Throughout the weekend, CISSA Camp Leaders will perform welfare and roaming shifts to guarantee the safety and well-being of all campers. Some leaders are equipped with First Aid and Bystander Intervention training. CISSA has zero tolerance for sexual assault and harassment. Attendees must comply with the university's code of conduct at all times.

Refunds and Cancellations
We recognize that unexpected events may prevent your attendance to CISSA Camp. If this is the case, refunds can be approved at the discretion of the executive committee. For more details, please email camp@cissa.org.au. If CISSA Camp cannot occur on the scheduled dates, it will be rescheduled. Tickets from the original dates remain valid for the new date. Those unable to attend the rescheduled event will receive a full refund.
