An intercultural project that thrives to create awareness of the sacredness of nature's origin, its rooted and intimate interconnection with ancestral cultural expressions of different generations of women. In doing so it tries to bring knowledge and wisdom of the old into a contemporary space, igniting reflection and dialogue among the audience and the community in general. 

RITUALISTIC DANCE INSTALLATION & SENSORIAL PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

A unique dance language of multisensory artwork that investigates and experiments choreographed senses and  feelings through body movement. Accompanied by a corporeal installation, the seven dancers embark on a spacial journey through embroidery sculpture, video art projections, singing and the interplay of lighting mediums.

This production shares narratives about the origin of life, memories of lineage and the perpetual repercussion of extinction on our planet.

C A R O L I N A   A G U I L E R A -  ARGENTINA

Carolina is a skilled architect, educator, arts and community engagement practitioner. Her practice revolves around project-based work, where she curates, produces, and facilitates contemporary arts projects. These projects are centered around intercultural activities, involving diverse communities, audiences, and artists from different backgrounds.

She collaborates with CaLD artists, organizing immersive workshops that connect different disciplines such as language, sports, cuisine and arts and crafts. Her team facilitates these workshops in various settings such as schools, festivals, and more.

Carolina's journey with dance began at an early age, as she naturally gravitated towards it. Growing up, she immersed herself in the rich tapestry of folkloric dances, particularly from Latin America. During her high school years, Eurhythmy captivated her with its expressive movements. As she ventured into Europe and Australia, Carolina explored various dance forms, including tango and other folk dances within ballroom and creative dance spheres. While initially not pursuing dance as a main activity, she now finds herself reigniting her passion and pursuing the long-held dream and is eager to delve deeper into the world of ethno-dance, combining her love for cultural traditions, movement, and creative expression.

Overall, Carolina's work reflects her commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue, promoting inclusivity, and creating meaningful artistic experiences. She finds all these qualities in Tunjos y Cantaros Ethnologic Dance Co.

C L A R A   M A R C E L A   O S P I N A   -  COLOMBIA

Marcela Ospina (Marce) is originally from Colombia. She is a professional Tango dancer, DJ and performer. While growing up she developed her passion for Tango by listening to her father singing and playing the guitar. When Marcela was 17 she began studying Ballet, gymnastics and Tango. The combination of these three disciplines, as well as her bubbly Caribbean background, has contributed to her unique dancing style. Since then, she has studied the followers’ technique in depth and perfected her own Tango embellishments and poetic rhythm.

Her participation in different festivals, championships and performances in Colombia, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Germany, has enriched her dancing and teaching skills. 

She currently lives in Melbourne and is a talented figure in the Tango community. She is passionate about contemporary dance and is also interested in exploring the change of roles in the dance and the many social values that can be incorporated into Tango from this practice. 

Her participation in Tunjos y Cantaros started a year ago as she was inspired by the mission and style of dance of the company. She is commited, along with the other members of the group, to bring a message to the world of love and respect to one another by acknowledging our ancestors and the land we live on. 

D E L T A    A N G E L I N E   W I L L I A M S   -  AUSTRALIA

Delta has been exploring movement from a young age through multiple modalities including dance, yoga and martial arts. Her passion and curiosity for dance grew during her late teen years, and in her early adult years saw her train and practice as a creative dance and yoga teacher. Delta has utilised the modality of dance as an art form and place of somatic release through exploring multiple styles with contemporary and creative dance being her foundation. Delta is endlessly inspired by and humbly respects the dance and movement lineages that have influenced her training and life over the years, many originating from across Asia and beyond. 

Delta joined Tunjos y Cantaros in 2024 and through the mentorship of Kathleen Gonzalez and the company's committed collaboration to each other,  the experience has reignited Delta's vibrant passion for dance as an art form and a grounding tool for life itself. For Delta, Tunjos y Cantaros connects deeply to the values she aspires to integrate into her life through captivating movement, sisterhood and the body's own inherited wisdom.

E S P E R A N Z A   A Y U S O  -  COLOMBIA

Esperanza is a mother, partner, daughter, sister, friend, and teacher with a deep love for movement, dance and music. She came to Tunjos wanting to explore dancing with a focus on how it feels rather than how it looks and, through the process, build her own style. She danced Colombian folklore at a young age, and later danced flamenco while living in Spain. She fell in love with the strength, flexibility, body awareness and circular movement of pole dancing 5 years ago and today she dances and teaches this style in Melbourne. Her love for experimentation impulses her to mix all these practices with the particular style of tunjos’ creative director and members to discover and express her own dance language.

K A T H L E E N   G O N Z A L E Z   - COLOMBIA

Kathleen is a Melbourne-based Colombian multi-medium,  experimental and contemporary artist. She also is a producer with intercultural forms, ethno-dance writer, artistic director and founder of Tunjos y Cantaros Ethnologic Dance Company and Ethnodanceology Art-. a study of dance through the application of a number of disciplines such as anthropology, musicology, ethnomusicology, and ethnography. It proposes ideas in new multi-ethnic phases and stages to encourage future diversity of human’s legacy and expression into this new era.

Kathleen researches contemporary and interactive dance that is emotional, exploring the wisdom and ancestral practices. During the past three years, Kathleen’s creative work was challenged due to the social restrictions. Now her practice processes embrace new ways of mixing technological skills that complement her career. Always striving to understand new original forms of movement, and performative arts. She encourages resonance between art forms and expressions that touch everyone, often addressing cultural exchange on ecological, political, and social environments within communities.

She addresses terms of decolonisation through a curatorial framework that crossover practices that embrace intergenerational issues to standing up for the rights of universal cohesion and human equity.

Focusing in body-art installation and site-specific performances, Kathleen’s work encourages intercultural community engagement. Her most recent choreographic  work called ÚTERO was presented as part of “GLOBAL WATER DANCES _23 . International languages of dance together paying tribute to water resources.  LABAN Institute & EuroLab. Worldwide Dance Movement representing Victoria-Australia.

M A R Y    F A H E Y  - AUSTRALIA 

Mary feels most alive when she is in nature, with her friends and family, reading, cooking, or dancing. At a young age she connected to dance in a deep way through the Martha Graham style. She fell in love with how this practice explores the opposites of contraction and release in the body. 

For a time, Mary lost her deep connection to dance, because it started to become solely about appearance. Then she found Tunjos, where she can once again practice styles and forms, but also dance with deep intention and remember how movements speak to spirit. 

Mary also came to Tunjos because she resonates with the understanding of dance as an ancient and sacred practice by all peoples. In this way, she connects to her Irish roots through movement; a family line of storytellers, dancers, and musicians.

P A M E L A  B E A T R I Z  G A R C E S  - CHILE 

Pamela’s journey in dance began in her early years in Chile, where she started with classical ballet. Her passion soon extended to Latin American folklore, a genre that resonates with her cultural heritage. As she grew, Pame's interest broadened to popular dance styles, and she frequently performed in school productions. This exploration of diverse dance forms continued when she moved to Australia, where she found herself captivated by Latin rhythms such as bachata, salsa, forro, and tango.

However, it was Biodanza that profoundly shaped Pamela's understanding and love for dance. Biodanza, which translates to "dance of life," became a pivotal part of her journey. Through this expressive form, Pamela discovered the depth of emotions that dance can evoke, the wisdom stored in the body, and the profound connections that dance fosters among individuals and communities. Biodanza remains a cornerstone of her dance philosophy, embodying the magic of connection and the intrinsic joy of movement.

In 2024, Pame joined Tunjos and Cantaros, an enriching experience that furthered her exploration of body autonomy, and emotional expression. This collaboration has been especially significant following a challenging period in her life, as it represents a reconnection with her body, feelings, and the healing power of femininity.

Pame’s journey continues to be one of discovery and transformation, fueled by a deep-seated belief in the therapeutic and connective power of dance.

Artistic organization that has been working since 2010 in Melbourne- AU. It aims to reveal common ideas and values  from different people's backgrounds, highlighting traditions and customs that have been traveling through generations. 

Our mission is to keep alive the ancestral wisdom through multidisciplinary and intercultural art work, combining mediums of expression through origins, history, traditional and new ways of identity dance tendencies, with contemporary dance, experimental dance, physical theater and corporal art installations.

There is a creation of a new dance tendency. As a result, it rescues “lost dances” that combine the media with contemporary art as well as new dance aesthetics and discipline. Enriching the concept and context of these new laboratories as psycho-emocional dance practice.

ORIGINARIO 2013 & 2016 are independent art events fully created by Tunjos y Cantaros Ethnologic Dance Company, revealing the concept of Ethnodanceology Art researching, exploring, experimenting and discovering ways to practice this spiritual dance method.

Safeguarding earthkeeper's oral traditions passed down to our founder Kathleen Gonzalez, from Grandmothers and Grandfathers Muisca, A'i, Mexika, Aymara, Quiswa, Mayan and  Lakota First Nations Peoples.

We aim to keep the original relationships, knowledge and wisdom of pre-historic cultures alive that could be manifested through this sacred dance style. The dance pieces express the cultural complexity of old ritualistic practices from the Americas. The origins, the mixing of cultural groups, the evolution of new cultural identities and the struggles that are still faced today to keep these  ancestral traditions alive.
