Description

Orqo Taki (Mountain Songs) is an exploration and tribute to the indigenous and mestizo folk music of the Andes Mountains via the vibrant strings of the charango, depth and range of the guitar, and ethereal wind of the kena.

Hailing from the oldest inhabited city in the Americas, Héctor García is one of the most decorated musicians that Cusco has produced. He reached the pinnacle of the guitar world by playing as a soloist in classical symphony orchestras and recording two solo albums, and has lent his technique to expressing South American folk music like few can. His guitar has been described as "the soul of the Andes in the hands of a virtuoso."

He is joined by Kitan García, a Bay Area multi-instrumentalist specializing in kena and charango. Kitan is an active collaborator of Comunidad Anqari, a group that keeps alive the indigenous music of the altiplano, as well as the Luis Valverde Dance Company where he supports with live music. He's performed with 8 instruments in the past year, including a theater production of Andean dances, SF Carnaval, La Peña's 50th Anniversary, and various events linked to the independence days and celebrations of Andean nations.

Orqo Taki offers a glimpse into the Andean folk traditions of Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina, with a focus on southern Perú, and marks Héctor's return to the stage after a lengthy hiatus as well as the duo's first concert.

Tickets are $20 general admission, and $15 for students with ID. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
