Our Adoption Project: Conversations-Adoption + The Law Talkaoke w/ Elle Hopwood
Description
Adoption + The Law Talkaoke with Elle Hopwood.
Family court cases are generally held in private with strict rules to protect privacy, which means that (unlike criminal courts) most people don’t know what happens or the legal processes that can result in children being permanently removed from their parents and placed for adoption.
This workshop will aim to demystify the Court process to enable better understanding of this, particularly those with lived experience of adoption, however it is open to anyone interested in learning more.
About Elle
Elle is a Children’s Solicitor specialising in Child Protection and is member of the Law Society Children Panel (which means she can represent children as well as adults in Court Proceedings).
The focus of her practise is on representing vulnerable parents and other carers in situations where the Local Authority is involved and she is passionate about working collaboratively with other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for children.
About Talkaoke
Talkaoke is a live, television-style talk show format developed by The People Speak art collective from East London. It is a unique way to hear the latest ideas people are talking about and to discover new ones together.
The conversation is a creative medium and a journey from one unexpected subject to another. It can be topical, funny, deep, surreal, or something else. The participants generate the subjects and the host in the middle keeps everybody engaged.
Picture a doughnut-shaped table with a mic in the middle, like a chat show set, except there’s no host telling you what to think and no script deciding what’s “on topic.” Whoever’s holding the mic steers the conversation. People rotate in and out. Strangers end up talking to strangers about things that actually matter to them, face to face, in real time — not through a screen, not through an algorithm deciding what they get to see.
