Our Adoption Project: Conversations-Life Story Workshop w/ Jade
Description
Life Story Workshop w/ Jade
Life Story is a seated creative session in which guests will explore the anatomy of an adoption “Life Story Book”. A Life Story Book is a chronological account created by social workers to document the life of an adopted child. The intention behind these books is to help adopted children understand their history, identity, and life journey.
This workshop invites participants to construct their own miniature book using a combination of painting, paper collage and short written prompts to build a handcrafted visual archive.
Guided by their handcrafted book together we will unpack how these narratives are created. We will creatively explore how to present early birth-family backgrounds and toddler memories, alongside the complex reasons why children are placed for adoption and transitioned to an adoptive family.
As a group, we will workshop how to condense these complicated life chapters into an accessible visual format. Participants can create a book to explore their own experiences, or they can choose to create their own fictional stories.
