Description

For more than 25 years, Mark has guided middle school students in building relationships with people and communities beyond their familiar world. Through a collective exploration of a global ethic, grounded in compassion, respect for all life, and human rights, participating youth came to appreciate cultural differences and recognize our common humanity. As empathy grew into commitment, they discovered their capacity to bring care and hope to others while expanding access to essential resources.

From Mark’s formative experiences in Nicaragua to his students’ action-learning initiatives to fund the demining of a Bosnian village, support the rehabilitation of Cambodian landmine survivors, and fund school construction in Ethiopia, the memoir traces a journey that transformed students and teacher alike.

All profits support Global Humanitarian Collaborative Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing dignity, equity, and flourishing for all living beings and the natural systems that sustain them. Guided by empathy, compassion, and a shared global ethic, we work alongside communities, partners, and volunteers worldwide to educate, empower, and inspire meaningful action toward a more just, humane, and sustainable world for all.
