Event description

Our Chinatown is a fundraising art exhibition curated by community group Soul of Chinatown, that celebrates Sydney’s Chinatown. Featuring six Asian-Australian artists and exhibiting at Banchō in the heart of Sydney's Chinatown, Our Chinatown explores the connection that the artists have to their own identity and Chinatown, and how the future of the area depends on the next generation.

Join the opening night of Our Chinatown on Tuesday 3 May 2022 at Banchō - Soul of Chinatown’s first major fundraising event. All funds raised will go towards the group's Rice Fund, which helps elderly Chinese-Australians and other disadvantaged groups. A portion of the funds raised will also be donated to GIVIT, an organisation directly aiding flood victims in northern NSW and QLD. Valid Discover vouchers accepted at checkout.

The opening night will feature a line-up of Asian-Australian talent - including SBS host Andy Trieu as MC - where guests will be able to meet the artists and Soul of Chinatown founders. DJ Dumplings will be spinning tunes by Asian-Australian artists all night, including Chinatown's own ChueyTickets include two Soul-themed cocktails and snacks by the Banchō team.

ABOUT SOUL OF CHINATOWN

Soul of Chinatown is a community group that preserves the culture, history and tradition of Sydney’s Chinatown and its community, but also looks to the future. Founded by Hayden Wong, Kevin Cheng and Peter Wong in 2021, Soul of Chinatown aims to inspire and foster positive change in Chinatown through advocacy, community and storytelling. The group created its Rice Fund during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 to support the vulnerable and disadvantaged - especially elderly Chinese-Australians that rely on Chinatown but who have faced increasing isolation.
