Our Family

'Our Family' is a play written by the local residents of Hampton Park using the real-life experiences and stories of different families and cultures. The play was written from 100 interviews with families: about the blessings and challenges within our families. The play follows the lives of four families with different cultural backgrounds. It’s a story of hope, truth and connection. In the story we see ourselves and we see each other.

This project is lead by Cultivate, in collaboration with VicHealth and Multi-cultural Arts Victoria, Cultivate is an empowerment group which aims to build capacity in our neighbourhood to take charge of our own moral, social and economic development. It creates opportunities where families/residents can address social issues affecting us all and allows for open consultation around how we can respond to our neighbourhoods needs. Cultivate is concerned with education; we are education. We conduct ourselves with a humble posture of learning, meaning we seek knowledge, learn and consult alongside others, work with individuals, community members, institutions in Hampton Park. We have a collaborative approach; whereby we see everyone - individuals, communities and institutions as a potential collaborator in helping our neighbourhood advance.
