Aotearoa’s Chinese immigrant history is filled with new starts and broken dreams. Two authors’ captivating debuts tell some of these stories in heartbreaking detail. Grace Yee’s innovative verse novel Chinese Fish provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of a Chinese New Zealand family over several decades; Emma Ling Sidnam’s award-winning novel Backwaters explores the impact of the past on the present. Both will be in conversation with Emma Ng.
