Our history: The View from the Shore, The View from the Ship | WA 2029 Bicentenary |
What is the WA 2029 Bicentenary?
In 2029, Western Australia will mark 200 years since the founding of the Swan River Colony, alongside more than 60,000 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander custodianship.
Reconciliation WA is engaging with communities across Western Australia to hear how people want this significant moment to be recognised.
Through conversations, stories and community engagement, we’re exploring what makes Western Australia special, what we can learn from our shared history, and what kind of legacy we want 2029 to leave for future generations.
In partnership with Fremantle Press, authors Luisa Mitchell, Sisonke Msimang and David Whish-Wilson will share stories and views from the shore and from the ship, bringing different perspectives on Western Australia’s rich, complex and diverse history to life through the power of storytelling.
This will be followed by a short Q&A from the audience.
Following the conversation, we invite you to participate in Reconciliation WA’s 2029 Bicentenary consultation. Share your ideas, perspectives and aspirations for how Western Australia could mark 2029 and what lasting legacies we could create for generations to come.
