THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. We plan to offer it again in 2027.

This is a 2-part virtual workshop series.

Session One, Past & Present
Session Two, Future

You are welcome to attend one or both of the workshop sessions.

Context: We, as a community, have weathered an unprecedented display of state violence and oppression. Our communities are still dealing with the emotional and economic devastation of the ICE occupation. In many communities, people have lost loved ones, livelihoods, and their sense of safety and stability. People witnessing the state violence from near and far also have felt the impact. Many of us are tired, shaken, and grieving, and we know there is still so much work to be done. We all need ways to support and lean on one another, and to renew our resolve to keep up the fight. This is why we developed this workshop series.

Session 1 Workshop Agenda

Introductions + somatic grounding
Using art, we will reflect on the roles we’ve been playing in our community
Share reflections and process together about what we have learned and what we are thinking about in the wake of ongoing authoritarian violence and oppression
Closing

Session 2 Workshop Agenda

Re-introductions + using an art activity for the grounding exercise
Reflect on nonviolent non-cooperation tactics and clarify what roles we want to play in dismantling oppressive systems moving forward
Determine what steps we can take going forward to help prevent a loss of momentum and continue building a world that centers human dignity, well-being, and liberation
Closing

Workshop Series Outcome: We hope you leave these sessions with greater clarity about the role(s) you want to play in the community moving forward and a clearer sense of what you need to sustainably play that role or roles.

Who is this for? Community-minded people who want a space to come together to strengthen our collective ability to work for social change and fight authoritarianism in sustainable, grounded ways.

About the Facilitators:

This workshop is offered by a collective of Twin Cities organizers coming from different fields (popular education, environmental justice, literacy, psychology, and more) who came together to help one another reflect on how they wanted to engage in community work moving forward. Through their process, they have developed workshops that provide spaces for other community-minded people to come together and strengthen our collective ability to work toward social change in sustainable, grounded ways. Learn more about the facilitators below:

Angela Allen: Angela is a queer BIPOC therapist, community organizer, educator, and advocate. She is guided by the belief that none of us are free until all of us are, and that the only path towards true liberation is alongside community, along with the dismantling of capitalism and other oppressive systems that plague our world. She is most excited about political and popular education that empowers people to take action and helps them make connections between their lived experiences, policy, and the lives of their community members.

Carrie Pomeroy: Carrie is a queer writer, educator, restorative justice practitioner, community organizer, and mother who’s trying to grow into being a good elder. As a facilitator, she loves to offer writing and conversational prompts that give people space to reflect on their experiences, connect the personal to larger historical and social currents, and cultivate compassion for themselves and others—and hopefully move toward clarity and fresh perspectives along the way. She has published her writing in the anthology Riding Shotgun: Women Write About Their Mothers, the St. Paul Almanac, and other publications.

Cydnee Sanders: Cydnee is a BIPOC educator, facilitator, and community organizer. She is passionate about culture and storytelling, whether that is through her extensive traveling, working with people across different cultures, or watching endless movies and television. She strives for community engagement and social justice through collaborative, human-centered dialogue that explores our identities and cultures.

Ilse Griffin: Ilse is a queer educator, writer, and community organizer. They are most excited about education that is tangible and skill-based (such as basic bike maintenance or conversational English) and politically and contextually grounded. They think that the best learning and activism always happen with and alongside others. They love helping to facilitate connections among different people, groups, and ideas.

Molly O’Connor: Molly is a queer facilitator, evaluator, artist, and community organizer who uses art to shape conversations with community partners, elicit their input, and infuse creativity and joy into the process.
