Facilitator & Lecturers

Lisette Kaleveld, Facilitator

Lisette is a social researcher who has worked on research and evaluation projects conducted in academic/research contexts as well as for the not-for-profit sector, as a public servant and as an independent consultant. Lisette has led a significant number national, state-wide and locally-based evaluation projects as the principal researcher/team leader, and has undertaken capacity building projects including facilitating training, tools and frameworks for community development officers to measure the impact of their work in local government. Lisette’s evaluation experience spans the mental health sector, education and disability sectors. Lisette is convener for the Australian Evaluation Society (WA Branch).

Dr Kevin Dolman, Special Guest Lecturer

Dr Kevin Dolman of the Eastern Arrernte tribe from central Australia, is one of a handful of Indigenous evaluation consultants in Australia. He has a special interest in how aspects of organisations and institutional systems impact on their capacity to respond to Indigenous needs and aspirations. Drawing on 30 years of reflective experience in the Indigenous affairs system, Kevin's evaluative work has involved some individual projects and some through collaboration with several of the nationally-recognised evaluation consulting firms. In 2020, Kevin was the lead evaluator on Indigenous Business Australia's inaugural Impact Evaluation 2020, which investigated the social, cultural and economic impacts for IBA's customers.

Emma Crane, Workshop Support

Emma Crane is a qualitative researcher at the Centre for Social Impact UWA. Her work has included research on topics including mental health and homelessness, drawing on a background in Anthropology and Geography as well as a Masters in Development Studies from Cambridge University.

Topics covered

The one day workshop is designed to familiarise participants with the language and key concepts of outcomes measurement and evaluation, and introduce practical methods, tools and instruments to support quantitative and qualitative data collection. Participants will leave knowing how to develop a program logic (and for what purpose), developing and use outcomes measurement frameworks, data collection plans, design a simple survey and conduct interviews and focus groups, within ethical guidelines. Participants will also learn how to store and manage data, with tips for effective analysis, as well as communication and reporting on findings.

We will also explore links between outcomes measurement, research and evaluation, and explore the relevant National frameworks and tools that can be used to guide approaches to measurement that are informed by cultural safety. There will be time throughout the day to reflect together on the existing culture and practices across various sectors that we can draw on to support the work of understanding the difference we make. We finish with all participants creating an action list to ignite outcome measurement in their organisation.
