Outdoor Painting

Enjoy the Spring weather with an outdoor painting workshop led by Tamworth's most experienced independent art educators. Taking advantage of the green outdoor area at the heritage listed Tamworth Community Centre, students will take the easels outside and find something that strikes their fancy to paint (or another medium, such as pastels or coloured pencils - no need to be restricted to painting if that isn't where you're at at the moment!). The teacher will give demonstrations and advice on technique, but what you want to paint is up to you! 

Outdoor painting, or as it's known among artists in its French term, en plein air, has been a valued medium since the introduction of manufactured paint tubes, which meant artists no longer had to mix their own pigments in a studio. Today, outdoor painting is a valuable way for artists of all ages and skill levels to enjoy a mindful experience and truly take in their surroundings.

Teacher

On The Day

Please ensure to Slip Slop Slap as we will be outside and it will likely be sunny (though there is plenty of shaded areas in the outdoor section of the Community Centre). We have gouache paint, watercolours and soft/oil pastels for students. If you have paints or an easel you particularly like, please bring them!

Location

All Tamworth Art Academy classes are held in the Britten Room at the heritage-listed Tamworth Community Centre. The large room is comfortable and air conditioned, with a kitchenette, and access to a large, grassy courtyard for breaks. This room contains art materials, as well as art books and classical and cartoon figurines for inspiration. During the regular class breaks, students will be able to use the provided bats, balls, frisbees etc. outside, or peruse the board games and art books in the air conditioning.
