    Event description

    Are you a day hiker keen to try overnight or multi-day hikes? Does the idea of spending a night with a million-star view appeal to you?

    Meet the challenge to learn new skills to participate in a guided overnight hike on the Bibbulmun Track! 

    Led by experienced professionals, the Overnight Hike for Her balances hike enjoyment, allowing time for taking in the beauty of the Great Southern environment while still covering a good distance each day. 

    Outdoors Great Southern will offers a women-only, introductory overnight hiking experience on the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia’s Great Southern after successfully applying for a Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) Hiking Participation Grant.

    Girls aged 12+ years are eligible to participate if accompanied by an adult.

    Training includes an accredited first aid course including CPR. 

    Please note that bookings are essential! 

    Day 1: 9am - 4pm, Saturday 6 November
    First Aid Training at ATC Worksmart, 5 Barker Road Albany

    Day 2: 10am - 2pm, Sunday 7 November
    Workshop at Outdoors Great Southern offices, 22 Collie St, Albany 
    See topics below. BYO lunch or takeaway is available at a nearby café. Tea and coffee facilities provided.

    Day 3: Full day from 9am, Saturday 20 November
    Start your hike on the Bibbulmun Track, departing Cosy Corner and staying at the Torbay Hut (approx 2.5km). Drop overnight packs and continue from Torbay Hut to Shelley Beach and return, requiring a day pack only (approx 12km return).

    Day 4: 9am - 11am, Sunday 21 November
    Return hike from Torbay Hut to Cosy Corner.

    Topics covered on Day 2 include Overnight Hiking Basics such as:

    • Matching hike to your fitness level
    • Realistic goal setting
    • What you need to take, where to get it, and why you need it
    • How to load and adjust a pack
    • Waterproofing your gear
    • Blister prevention
    • What food to take and cooking on a hiking stove
    • Setting up a tent; tents vs huts
    • Sleeping comfort, sleeping bags and mats
    • Personal hygiene while hiking, safety & emergencies

    You'll be provided with a packing list of essential items to bring on your hike.
