Alicia Goodwin / Lingua Nigra
With a background in Cultural Anthropology and a degree in Jewelry Design from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, Alicia is a Chicago-based jeweler that specializes in adding unique textures to her sculptural jewelry, applying her knowledge of ancient techniques like reticulation and acid etching to her more contemporary designs.
Her love of complex ceremonial jewelry created with minimal tools such as fire, sand, and beeswax led her to truly admire the work throughout the Mesoamericas and the African diaspora. She honed her unique style while working for dozens of significant jewelry companies in the fashion industry in New York City, learning the business ins and outs during the day while creating at night.
With close to two decades of experience under her belt and a decade of being an independent jeweler in her own right with her eponymous brand, Lingua Nigra, Alicia continues to fabricate new ways to explore bygone approaches to creating wearable art.
Find Alicia's work at linguanigra.com and follow her on Instagram @linguanigra.
