Oyster Reef Restoration Volunteer Project – Oyster Shell Drilling
Description
Join us for a hands-on morning supporting oyster restoration in our local waterways!
During this volunteer project, we’ll be preparing recycled oyster shells for future restoration efforts. Volunteers will help drill holes into the shells and assemble oyster pins that will be used in upcoming projects throughout the Manatee River and surrounding waterways.
Oysters are an important part of our coastal ecosystems. They provide habitat for marine life, help filter the water, and can help stabilize shorelines. Your work during this event will help prepare materials that will eventually become part of a living oyster reef.
No previous experience is needed. We’ll provide the tools, materials, and instructions.
What to bring:
• Water bottle
• Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes
• Work gloves, if you have a favorite pair (we have some too)
All other supplies will be provided.
