Event description

With 1 in 5 people experiencing chronic pain in the US and at least half of the population experiencing at least 1 chronic disease, it is inevitable that a mental health professional will have a client who will have chronic pain or illness (or both!).

This seminar is for mental health professionals who wish to improve their skills in working with individuals within this population. Over the course of this seminar, there will be research presented, along with case studies, and practical examples of how to effectively assess, build treatment ideas, and overall work with clients in your practice using a well-rounded approach.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to:
    • Recognize the impact of chronic pain and/or illness on client’s daily life
    • Comprehend the complex relationship between physical and mental health concerns
    • Analyze diverse factors in the assessment and treatment planning process for this demographic
    • Identify evidence-based clinical interventions for this population
    • Summarize the nuances of building and sustaining positive rapport with this population.
