Painting a Surfboard
4 weeks series of classes
Have you ever wanted to paint a surfboard to display as a work of art?
Paint/decorate old surfboards and reduce landfill. Possibly display your completed art work along the main road in Woolgoolga.
What will be covered in the course:
Participants will learn how to prepare the surface of a surfboard before painting a design on it. They will learn about colour, design, composition and creating an artwork suitable for their surfboards.
The aim of these 4 sessions is to teach you how to:
Clean and prepare the surface of a second-hand surfboard for display purposes.
Create a design on paper.
Develop your design and transfer the artwork onto a surfboard.
Then paint/colour the surfboard.
Finally varnish it.
By the end of the course students will:
Have the knowledge of how to prepare a surfboard, create a suitable design and take a completed artwork home.
Equipment:
Six second-hand surfboards are available,
pencil, paper,
water based house paint/ acrylic paint/gouache,
wax comb (from the surf shop),
mask,
gloves,
water based estapol/varnish,
water based primer.
Location: Woolgoolga Gallery 73 Turon Parade Woolgoolga
Dates: Saturdays 7/11, 14/11, 28/11, 5/12 ( no class on 21/11)
Time: 10:00 - 1:00 pm
Tutor: Kim Hampton
Cost: $80 includes recycled surfboard.
About the tutor
Kim is a qualified Textile Designer/Colourist. She has conducted one Surfboard Design Workshop at a local High School. She also organises the untutored Life Drawing Sessions at Woolgoolga Art Gallery.
