Welcome to plein air in Orange County! This workshop is being run in conjunction with Orange County Arts Commission's 7th Annual Paint It Orange! Plein Air Paint Out.

Have you ever wanted to paint outside on a glorious fall day? Create a little bit of art in the plein air with a helpful guide? In this workshop, you'll learn tips and techniques and paint outdoor landscapes with other painters under the guidance of Scott Myers. Scott has been painting and selling landscapes for over 25 years, and has plenty of tricks and tips to help you capture that perfect moment in paint. Acrylic, oil, or watercolor mediums welcome. Come on out and play.

Please pack a lunch and bring a water bottle for hydration. As much of this class will take place outdoors, please consider what you might need to keep comfortable (dress in layers, sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, etc.)

Recommended Supplies:

- a brush (a small variety of 3-5)
- a surface to paint on (paper, canvas, board)
- paint: white, black, red, yellow and blue are all you need, but all colors are welcome
- If using watercolor or acrylic paints, please bring a container of water and a few rags for cleaning brushes
- If using oil paints, please a thinner of some kind, and some rags

About the Artist:

Matthew Scott Myers is a self taught, professional artist living and working in Carrboro, North Carolina. He graduated from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Creative Writing Degree. After years of toiling in front of a computer and traveling the world in a rock n roll band, Scott sat down in front of a canvas, squeezed colored oil onto a palette, and accidentally found the way he wanted to spend the rest of his life. Scott is a self-taught artist, working in oils, looking to capture the vibrant world he sees around himself. He describes his works as Saturated Realism, or sometimes Acidism, and then sometimes also impressionism. Maybe a little expressionism? Hard say really. He was honored with solo shows at the Louise Jones Brown Gallery at Duke University, the Center for the Study of the American South, at the University of North Carolina, and the Page-Walker Arts Center in Cary, North Carolina. His works are in many private collections, including The Purdue Pharmaceutical Permanent Collection and The Woodlands Collections of Chapel Hill.
