Event description

Painting with light!  With Julien Scheffer

Learn to create stunning photographs by 'painting' images with light.

Tuesday 25th May
6.30pm - 9pm
$50 / $37

In this workshop you'll get hands-on with a photographic technique that lets you create beautiful abstract images using lights to draw in front of a camera.

Light painting is a fun, original and highly expressive way to use a camera by moving your body to write, draw, dance or even mime as a way of creating images!

The session starts with an explanation of the role played by shutter speed when taking photographs (including examples and demonstrations) and a short presentation of the light painting technique.

You'll then create a lighting setup with cameras and tripod/s, darkening the room and testing the different types of light torches and experiment with creating photographs using a variety of light painting techniques.

You will get to swing, shift, drop, throw (and anything else you can think of) lights in front of the camera and be surprised and amazed by what you create.

Making images this way is all about improvisation and play so you'll be encouraged to go wild!

WHAT YOU'LL GET
  • Better understanding of camera controls and the role of shutter speed
  • Gain confidence using your digital camera
  • An opportunity to develop an interest in alternative image-making techniques in photography.
  • A chance to meet like-minded photography enthusiasts in a friendly setting and find opportunities to take your photography further.
  • Last but not least, you will get to create beautiful and original high-resolution digital images which will be sent to you after the workshop.
