ActionAid Australia and MAA International are proud to present an exclusive evening hearing from Jamil Sawalmeh, ActionAid Palestine Country Director, as he brings to light the current situation for everyday people in Gaza amidst ongoing attacks and humanitarian aid blockages.
For two and a half years, Jamil and his team have led ActionAid's humanitarian response to Israel's war on Palestine.
We'll also hear about his personal experiences, as someone living and working in the West Bank, of Israel's settler violence, and restrictions on movement.
As Antony Loewenstein guides us through the evening, Sara Saleh will ground us in the Australian context, and speak to what we can do to continue to show support and take action for those who continue to face Israel's ongoing attacks.

Antony Loewenstein
Moderator Antony Loewenstein is an independent journalist, film-maker and author of the global best-selling book, The Palestine Laboratory, now published in 17 editions and 12 languages. He's written for The New York Times, The Guardian and many other outlets and recently launched The Antony Loewenstein Podcast.
Jamil Sawalmeh
Jamil has over 20 years of experience working in the humanitarian and development sector. Being born and raised in a refugee camp in the West Bank, Jamil experienced the harsh political realities of Palestine at an early age. The life experience of the refugee camp turned Jamil into an activist and advocate for the rights of vulnerable groups such as women, children and especially refugees. Jamil chose a career focused on international development and humanitarian assistance with Right To Play, the Norwegian Refugee Council, UN Volunteers and currently with ActionAid. Jamil has previously held the positions of Country Director and Program Manager with Right To Play over a period of ten years. He has had extensive experience working in humanitarian and recovery settings with the Norwegian Refugee Council as a Program Manager. He is a member of the Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection Network (PHAP) and certified in Health and Safety and Food Safety by the British Chartered Institute for Environmental Health. Jamil has a passion for working issues relating to education and children in the humanitarian and development context. Jamil has a passion for social entrepreneurship and last couple of years he invested time in building an eco-friendly enterprise focusing on agricultural tourism. He has specific interests in Middle Eastern politics/contexts and reading books on literature and philosophy.
Sara Saleh
Sara Saleh is an award-winning writer, race critical human rights lawyer, and daughter of Palestinian, Lebanese, and Egyptian migrant-settlers based on Darug country. She has worked on racial justice, refugee rights, and international humanitarian advocacy across Australia and the Middle East with organisations including Amnesty International Australia and CARE International in Amman, Jordan. Her writing and advocacy centre questions of displacement, decolonisation, and resistance. As a long-term organiser in the justice for Palestine movement, and Head of Advocacy at Muslim Aid Australia, she is focused on empowering communities with legal and political tools in service of Palestinian liberation, while building solidarity across struggles for racial and social justice.
